There are limits to every material used in any industry, but a plasma treatment can remove some of the limits. Broadening the already vast range of many commercial materials used in any manufacturing process.
Plasma functionalization, also referred to as plasma activation, is used to change or even improve the adhesion abilities of a material’s surface. This is done mainly before any painting or coatings. The plasma treatment will:
• Remove weak boundary layers while oxidizing the upper most atomic layer of the material.
• Help break up existing bonds to promote three dimensional cross bonding of molecules.
• Generate polar groups.
The treatment is predominately used for the surface of polymers and weakly ionized oxygen plasma is used.
